There’s something truly magical about photographing families during golden hour—and our session with the Morris Family at Pioneers Park in Lincoln, Nebraska was no exception. The evening light wrapped everything in a warm, soft glow, creating the perfect backdrop for capturing authentic moments of joy, connection, and playful energy.

From the moment we met at the park, the Morris family brought such great energy. The kids wasted no time running through the open fields, chasing each other, and laughing non-stop. That freedom to explore and just be themselves is exactly what I aim to encourage in my sessions. It allows for real, unscripted moments that truly reflect who they are as a family.

Pioneers Park is one of my favorite Lincoln locations for family photography—wide open spaces, trails, tall grasses, and just enough trees to filter that dreamy evening light. As the sun dipped lower, the golden rays lit up everything with a soft, honey-like glow. We found a quiet spot near the tall prairie grass, and the light was absolutely perfect—warm, natural, and flattering.

What I loved most about this session was how relaxed and present everyone was. The Morris family wasn’t focused on getting every pose "just right." Instead, they were focused on each other—hugging, laughing, playing—and those are always the most meaningful photos. The kind that feel like a memory, not just a portrait.

Overall, my advice for family photography sessions is always the same — think of it more as spending time with your family doing an activity that you love, rather than a photo session. When people feel like they can be themselves, this is where the magic happens. When everyone feels comfortable, we easily create those perfectly candid photos. We all want photos that capture the personality of the people we love most and that is always my goal for your session.
