Lifestyle Family Photography Sessions

A little bit of chaos and a lot of love make for the perfect family photos.

My work is for families who want to photograph the real thing, to document candid moments in a documentary style.

My style focuses on beautiful light and natural connection, with occasional, thoughtful direction to help you stay relaxed and enjoy the moment that you’re in.

In-Home Family Photography Session

Time to have some fun! Jump on the bed with the kids, make cookies in the kitchen, play toys, chase each other around the hallways. Keep it casual. Keep it fun.

This is one of my favorite ways to document the story of a family, as they really make for unique images of not just where you spend the majority of your family time, but where you are also the most comfortable.

Through natural interactions and a relaxed atmosphere, these sessions create timeless images that beautifully reflect your day-to-day life.

Hey, I’m Matt

Husband and stay-at-home Dad by day, entrepreneur by night—or something like that.

I grew up in the heartland, where honesty, hard work, and a love for wide-open spaces are just a way of life.

In a former life, commercial photography took me all over the world, but when our first daughter was born, I traded airline seats for bedtime stories. Best trade I’ve ever made.

My style is clean, simple, and minimal—because I believe the best moments speak for themselves.

At the end of the day, my philosophy is simple: Treat your clients like friends. Work hard. Obsess over the details, but never over yourself. And most of all—enjoy the ride.

Frequently Asked Questions

What time of day is best for lighting for outdoor photos?

The best time of day to start your session is at sunrise or anywhere from 1 to 2 hours before sunset. This “time” changes of course depending on the time of year.

What kinds of things can we do during our in-home photo session?

That’s entirely up to you, but we will work together to decide on a few activities ahead of time. I’ll encourage you to brainstorm things your family would usually do on a rainy day at home together. This is a great time to allow the kids to do something they wouldn’t usually be allowed to do. Anything out of the ordinary is almost guaranteed to make the kids super excited.

But what if my home isn’t perfect?

Good! No one’s house is (or should be) perfect, especially when you have kids. Consider which rooms in your home get the best light, and also consider what activities you’d like to focus on.

What the heck should I wear?

First and foremost just be yourself!  No need to match each other, unless of course your family wears matching outfits on a daily basis.  ( I'm betting that's not the case) :)  There are no major colors or patterns you need to be concerned with steering clear of.  Be bold and whimsicle or subtle and simple, it's all a matter of preference and what you feel most comfortable in.

Do you have suggestions for locations?

Absolutely!! I have several locations and go-to spots that I recommend. I also love incorporating any special locations or spots around town that are meaningful to you as a person, couple, or family. Otherwise, if shooting in your home is of interest, then we’ll take that route.

How soon after our shoot can I expect to see the pictures?

Our turnaround time for uploading the images to your online gallery is 7 to 10 days after the shoot.

What if there's a chance for rain?

If the weather forecast doesn't look good we will determine if we should postpone & re-schedule the shoot anywhere from 12-24 hours out.

Can you photograph extended or larger family groups?

Yes, please get in touch for a quote for a larger or extended family group photography session.

What if I don’t see a session that fits my needs or falls within my budget for photography?

I’d be happy to create a custom solution that works for you. Everyone deserves the ability to document their family story—please get in touch with me.

How do we book a session and secure a date?

Just fill out the short form on our Contact Page to get started—I’ll take it from there and work out all the details to lock in your shoot date. A 50% retainer will be needed to reserve your session time.
