There’s something uniquely personal and meaningful about photographing families in their own homes. Recently, I had the chance to spend an hour with the Greene Walsh family, dad, mom, and their energetic little boy, in their beautiful craftsman style home in Omaha, Nebraska.
The house itself had so much charm, with big windows pouring in soft natural light and cozy corners that made for perfect backdrops. We didn’t need anything elaborate. No props, no posing marathons, just the three of them hanging out and being themselves.
What I loved most was how relaxed everything felt. We didn’t rush. We laughed, we talked, and simply moved through the session in a natural, easy way. In that hour, we captured so many candid moments, tiny glances, and those fleeting expressions that show up when no one’s trying too hard.
If you're in Omaha or Lincoln and wondering whether an in-home session might be right for your family, I’d say this: there’s no better setting than the place where your family life actually happens. Your home doesn’t have to be spotless or perfectly styled. It just has to be yours.

Overall, my advice for family photography sessions is always the same — think of it more as spending time with your family doing an activity that you love, rather than a photo session. When people feel like they can be themselves, this is where the magic happens. When everyone feels comfortable, we easily create those perfectly candid photos. We all want photos that capture the personality of the people we love most and that is always my goal for your session.
