There’s something about Pioneers Park in the summer that feels like it’s always waiting for a family like the Spohns—wide open trails, golden light, and plenty of space for kids to run free and be exactly who they are.

We met up on a warm evening just before sunset. The kind of evening that reminds you why Nebraska skies are so famous. The Spohns—mom, dad, and three energetic little ones—showed up ready for anything, which is exactly the kind of energy that makes for great photos. No pressure to pose. No rush. Just an hour to explore, play, and make memories.

I’m a firm believer that the best family photos aren’t about perfection. They’re about presence. And this session was full of it. Laughter, curiosity, and a whole lot of love.

One of my favorite images from the evening is of all five of them walking hand in hand along the trail, the sun just dipping below the trees behind them. It’s not staged. It’s not perfect. But it feels like them—and that’s the goal every time.

Overall, my advice for family photography sessions is always the same — think of it more as spending time with your family doing an activity that you love, rather than a photo session. When people feel like they can be themselves, this is where the magic happens. When everyone feels comfortable, we easily create those perfectly candid photos. We all want photos that capture the personality of the people we love most and that is always my goal for your session.
